Hello Friends! Welcome back to Practice Practice.
Its hard to believe, but we are already 4 months into our year-long residency at the Oklahoma Contemporary's Studio School! Here's an update of what we've been working on:

Dylan Cale Jones

We All Live Together, 2025, 72"x126", ink and colored pencil on toned paper.
Dylan is working on their new series "We All Live Together". In these works, Dylan illustrates ambiguous mass-gatherings of what might be commuters, festival-goes, protestors, or evacuees. Each crowd contains a myriad of appearances, complicating the dynamic of shared experience through apparent differences. These works evoke the often unseen, but ever present and problematic reality of human interconnectedness.

Dylan is feeling exciting about increasing the scale of their drawings so that viewers feel immersed and implicated in the crowds of people. See more of Dylan's work here.

Isa Rodriguez

Kalaira (04), 2025, 50"x80", acrylic and alcohol-based inks on toned paper.
Isa is creating more large-scale mixed media drawings of migratory jaguars living along the U.S.-Mexico border. In a recent statement about the "Kalaira" series, they write:

As a Venezuelan American artist of Wayuu descent, the jaguar, or “kalaira", has a specific spiritual significance, representing strength, intelligence, and intuition. They also have the power to transcend boundaries.

Jaguars’ range extends from southern Argentina into the United States, a habitat that overlaps with corridors used by migrants, including the Darien Gap and the Sonoran Desert. My "Kalaira" drawings respond to current conversations about migration, territory, and boundaries. The large-scale drawings dissolve the border between the jaguar and its habitat, creating an image in which the viewer can’t distinguish subject from environment.

Classes start April 7th!

Classes at Studio School are about to start, but you've still got time to sign up! Isa is teaching:

and Slab Lab (Sundays, 1:00-3:30pm)
Put your hand-built ceramics in the air and wave 'em like you just don't care about throwing clay on the wheel.

We'll be back in 2 weeks.

Until then, keep practicing!
