Hello Friends! Welcome back to Practice Practice.

Summer has officially arrived and we are on summer break! Now that Season One of our podcast is all wrapped up, we have more time to hang, rest, and cook with our loved ones. This has us thinking about our all-time favorite creative practice: PLAY!
The Practice Practice workbook lays open over a background of small, bright flowers. The open page reads, 'When you play, you renew your creative energy!'
We even dedicated a whole chapter to play in our Practice Practice workbook!
May we remind you that play relaxes you, rejuvenates you, and even helps you learn?
Play improves neuroplasticity, essentially making your thinking more flexible. And we all know flexibility is crucial to creativity! Another well-kept secret: Play makes you look younger. 👼🏼
In episode 11 of our podcast, we interviewed Erin Owen. Erin's work is a great example of how play can be integrated into your creative practice. Their pieces often take the form of games, which they use to playfully engage viewers with politically charged subject matter.

Practice Practice Podcast: Erin Owen

Erin Owen is an sculptor and print maker based in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In their work, they contemplate the destruction of the natural world and the challenges of living in a late stage capitalistic society through the lens of play.

We talk about burnout, rest routines, how to deal with a backlog of art materials, and game theory!

Play-time Practice:

Make a play date this week. This could be playing fetch with your pup, doing a puzzle with a friend, joining your local Pride Alliance pick-up games, or playing a good video game. Play make-believe, play dress-up, play tic tac toe! There are lots of ways to play! Personally, we never say no to a game of Lotería.

Thanks for reading. We'll be back in 2 weeks.

Until then, keep practicing!
