Hello Friends! Welcome back to Practice Practice.

We are nearly done with the first season of our podcast, and we're reflecting on what we've learned from our amazing guests. Something that comes up again and again in our conversations is the connection between creativity and taking risks. Consider this advice from artist and educator Marwin Begaye:
"As artists, I feel like we're constantly taking risks... You're at a ledge and you could either jump off or you could just be walking around for days, trying to muster up the courage to jump. And then in the end you haven't done anything, you're just walking around in circles. So just jump!"
- Marwin Begaye: Season 1 episode 4
This idea is reinforced by last week's guest, Black Masq:
"I don't think anyone can go wrong with the advice to just be bolder."
- Black Masq: Season 1, Episode 9

Practice Practice Podcast: Black Masq

Black Masq is an Oklahoma-based photographer who uses nude portraiture to explore queer identities.

We talked to him about setting boundaries, building community and being bold enough to step into your identity.

5 minute journal prompt: Risk and Rewards

What is "risk" anyway? Risk is actually uncertainty—it feels risky because you don't know what's going to happen. This journal prompt will help you become more comfortable with uncertainty.

List three things you want to try but feel afraid of. For each thing, answer these questions:
  • What is the worst that could happen?
  • What is the best that could happen?
  • What is something neutral that could happen?
  • What is something totally random that could happen?
You don't know what's going to happen until you try!

Speaking of trying new things:

Dylan is having their first-ever ceramics pop-up!

Dylan will be at Stonecloud Brewery from 3pm to 6pm this Sunday, June 9th. They'll be selling beer tumblers, coffee mugs and vases.

Come say hi, pick up your one-of-a-kind tumbler and have a cold one with Dylan.
Cheers!
Thanks for reading. We'll be back in 2 weeks.

Until then, keep practicing!
